Aminat’s Opening Sequence Analysis

Scream:

In this clip, the location shows that the film was set in a rural area as it has many large spaces with fields. The location of the house gives the idea that the film is set in America, with the large house that has a  front porch and big garden. The time period of the film was made clear here costume. These types of jeans were very popular in the 1990’s. Also, a prop was used that indicated that it was set in 90’s,which was the telephone. The ideas about the main characters were created through costume. The female character wearing a jumper,a pair of jeans and boots presented the idea that see is either a teenager or a young adult. The Grim Reaper’s costume with a black cloak and mask shows that he’s the evil person of the film. The parents of the girl are wearing suits that suggest that they’re affluent individuals.

The lighting establishes what the genre of the film was as there was very little lighting used and a lot of the lighting came from natural sources e.g. the moon, front porch lights. The knife being used as a prop also demonstrates the genre of the film which is horror. The Grim Reaper being the main character adds onto the establishment on the genre of the film. The dialogue between the older male and female characters lets the audience know that the girl that has been killed is their daughter.Non diagetic sounds such as the usual piano/violin music used in horror movies give an idea that something bad is going to happen. The sound of screaming, smashing of glass window, panting, shaky breath all add up to establish the ideas of the films genre.

Wide and Extreme Long Shots are used to introduce the key location.A close up shot is used on the young female character,a wide shot on the parents and a long shot with a point of view shot is used on to introduce the Grim Reaper. A two shot establishes the relationship between the older male and female characters to show that they’re a couple. Cross Cuts are used to present scene between the Grim Reaper murdering the girl and her parents in the house looking for her.Eye line Match is used when the girl looks at the car coming into the driveway. Slow Pace editing is used as the Grim Reaper stabs the girl and fast paced is used when the Grim Reaper looks back, smashes window and grabs her arm.

The Woman In Black

The Victorian household suggests that the movie was sent in England. The costume of the girls seem very Victorian therefore the time period of the film is made clear which was the 18th Century. Ideas about the main characters are established through makeup/costume,their hair is in ponytails which suggest they may be under the age of 12. Dolls are used as props to generate ideas about the genre of the film. The general mood is created through the slow movement of the girls moving towards the window. The only source of dialogue that is used is where a woman screams “My babies” this gives ideas that the 3 girls are related to her, possibly her daughters. The sound motif of the chiming/piano that is used in jewellery boxes suggests that the location (the house) is haunted. Asynchronous sound of the mother/woman screaming shows that the movie is a horror/thriller movie. The key location is introduced through the use of wide shots which shows that whole room. The key characters are introduced through a wide shot and then a two shot and a close up on one of the girls. Close up shots and two shots establish that the relationship between the girls is that they may be sibling or close friends. The Woman in Black is shown in a blurred shot in the corner which identifies the arrival of the evil person/force. Simple cuts are used a numerous of times to show each girl playing with the doll. An eye line match is used where the girls turn to look  to their left and then it cuts to the window. Throughout the clip, slow paced editing is used to emphasize any tragic events that will occur e.g. jumping out the window.

The Last Exorcism 2

Link has been removed from YouTube

The rural area of a detached house that is not busy is shown as the location of where the film will be set. The house is very modern as well as the kitchen and bathroom seem newly furnished therefore indicates that the time period of the film is present day. The makeup and costume of the “exorcist” establishes that it is a main character as a mythical creature.  The movement of the actors (moving slow, creeping carefully around the house) shows that the genre of the film is more likely to be a horro movie. A petrifying mood is created with a prop of a plate being dropped and spinning on the floor. The male character uses dialogue to the female character saying, “Stay there”. This gives an idea that they’re a couple and he wants to keep her safe. The silent wind from the outside gives ideas that it’s quiet area where help is vey hard to get. The scream that comes from the “exorcist” establishes that the film is a horror movie. Asynchrous sound is used when the plates drop/spin on the floor but the shot is not on screen. This created a sense of fear, as the audience does not see it what makes the plates drop.

Establishing shot is used to introduce the key location, which is the house. A low angle shot is shown on the woman as she comes out of bed and a close up shot of the man introduces the key characters. Close up shots and point of view shots point out the relationship between the key charcaters is that they’re possibly a couple. Simple cuts is used numerous of times e.g. the male charcter looking at the female character and vice versa. There is a variety of paces used in this clip, however majority of the time, slow paced editing is used. Fast paced is used when the male character jumps out of the bed and the “exorcist” scratches him.Slow paced editing is used when the man and woman are moving slowly around the house to see what the creature is.

Team meeting 04/12/2013 Present : Sureeyah , Gabriel , Aminat , Martyna Agender progress review: The pitch and the opening sequence analysis

Martyna’s Opening Sequence Analysis

The ring- The ring: It is made clear where the film is set in the mise on scene of a typical American house hold the room the characters are in hold props that usually belong in a normal teenagers room , such as posters ,TV etc . The fact that the girls are wearing a high school uniform and their accents during the dialogue suggest they are American so additionally the movie is set in America in the modern age. The surroundings of the room are seen to have modern furniture this suggest it is set in the time period of the 21st century , The two main characters are wearing a school uniform that wouldn’t have been suitable in the olden age , their skirts are quite short and their legs are showing .this suggest it is set in the modern age. The main character is established in the first creepy scene of the opening sequence , she is seen in a long angle shot in the tv screen . The fade in edit is used with a high speed pace to zoom into the evil main character .The genre if established by the use of the characters dialogue topic , the two characters talk about a horror film in the beginning , the room the two characters are at looks very dull and has dim lighting this makes the room seem scary and spontaneous. General mood of the characters is very tense and frightening , every movement brings adrenaline to them as if something is to happen. The key locations are introduced with the use of close ups of certain objects such as the clock prop striking at 10pm this shows the importance of the time , the close up of the phone ringing suggest its significance .The two characters are introduced using close ups to see them talking amongst each other , medium shots followed by the over shoulder shot to show the conversation between the characters ,this shows they have a strong friendship because they are probably having a sleep over. The genre and narrative is established with the use of a wide shot during the creepy scene where the character is in the corridor and is zoomed in to be screaming this indicates horror and the story line of a phone ringing. The use of diagetic sound of the phone ringing is the main key location of the horror film as well as the white noise created by the tape. footsteps are also used to indicate fear.Non diagetic sound of a disturbing squeeking noise is used to create tenson and fright. Very quite use of diagetic sound such as water dripping creates a rather unpleasant mood and creates tension.

The woman in Black – The Woman in black It is clear where the film is set by the use of little girl characters costume props , they are wearing a vintage traditional English clothing with their hair tied up this indicates it is set in England , The tea pots the characters are playing with is also known to be an English tradition also known as a tea party, the girls being surrounded by furniture and walls suggest they are in a house /room. The time period of the film is made clear with the clothing the girls are wearing it looks very oldern aged and Victorian, the furniture around them seems antique and the toys look old.The high ceilings and high windows indicate an olden house which is not modern. The main character is established with a mysterius force that is concluded to control the three characters in the opening sequence , she is not seen but is known to be present with the movements. The genre of the film is established with the very gloomy lighting in the room , the girls opening the windows and jumping to their deaths indicate horror , the girls are seen to be with no emotions as if they are controlled by a force or movement. The genral mood is seen to be frightening and freaky as the girls seem plastic like and very pale this makes the mood seem dull. The location and the main caharcetrs are introduced using various close ups of the little girls faces and movement  , also medium shots and close ups of certain objects such as the tea pots . The use close ups of the girls hand movements and the fct that they are playing shows the relationship between the characters .The wide shot and long shot of the girls walking towards the window show they are being controlled this establishes the idea of the film genre and the narrative .

Tears- The tears It is made clear where the film Is set in China or japan as the main characters n the opening scene seem foreign . the location is seen to be a forest or park . A lot of counry side is seen . The time period is made clear with the use of the swing prop as the wing was made out of a tire , tires are only part of the modern time period , the clothing on the two characters are modern . the presence of trees and the sun suggest it is summer. The main character is introduced to be swinging on a swing the sun is shining directly onto the chatacter which may indicate the importance of the little girl  the second character and the genre of the film is intoruced with a startling shock  , as a fast movement of a woman hanging is seen all of a sudden. The genral mood is intense and creepy as the scenes do not show much of the surrounding apart from the little girl on the swing this brings fear as to what will happen next. The use of wide shots and long shots of the countryside show the key locations , the use of close ups and high angle shot of the character on the swing introduced the main storyline. The relationshop of the two characters are shown with a two medium shot which shows the charaters facing each other as if they are enemies. The narrative and genre of the film is established with the use of close up shots of certain movement , such as the girl hanging swining on the tree and the camera having a close up of her feet only, the medium shot of the woman awakening shows the paranormal and supernatural movement. There is no dialogue used in the opening sequence , there is only a quite non diagetic sound of the little girls breathing , The use of diagetic sound of the swing squeeking and wind blowing shows the location of the film as it is et in the county side around trees. The genre and genral mood of the film is shows by the use of non diagteic sound and ambedient sound of a loud background noise towards the end of the scene with a loud thuming this shows horror and creates a tense and frightening mood.\

Gabriel’s Opening Sequence Analysis

Ghost Ship (2002) opening scene

Ghost ship (2002) can be distinguished as a horror film due to its use of technical and symbolic codes, as well as conventions. A bird’s eye view of the ship in the middle of the ocean opens the scene, in order to establish a sense of isolation causing the audience to feel that the characters in the film are alone. The opening scene is filmed at night and although the lighting on the ship is quite bright, it is a convention of horror genre that tragic events occur at night. This is because it creates mystery and suspense, given that darkness is associated with evil and the unknown. Synchronous sound is used, when a mysterious hand presses a lever that unravels a thin wire cord from a spool, while the wealthy passengers of the ship are dancing on the deck, which eventually kills the passengers. This exaggeration of sound contributes to creating an enigmatic atmosphere, which is also a common convention in horror films as it generates a sense of realism. Throughout the whole of the opening scene non-diagetic sound was used i.e. high pitch singer accompanied by violins. This is intended to create a relaxing and calm atmosphere to build tension for the major event of the scene. As is frequent in the horror genre, an assassination happens during the opening scene. In this particular case, a massacre occurs. This aids to engage the audience right from the beginning and stimulates the viewers thought processes to form ideas as to what the rest of the film could be about. A POV shot is incorporated near the end of the opening scene, when Katie (the young girl protagonist) realises the captain’s head is sliced by the wire. This shot allows the audience to see through the characters eyes, therefore putting themselves within the films world. Although, the film correctly uses many good filming techniques along with conventions of the horror genre, it fails to fully captivate the audience. I believe this is due to the lack of realism in the opening scene mainly due to the poor special effects used, particularly when the passengers are sliced in two with the ship wire. However, this may be a consequence of having a small budget to create the film.

The Ring (2002) – Opening Scene

The main codes and conventions used in the opening scene of The Ring (2002) allow it to be categorized as psychological horror film. The film involves a young girl who watches a cursed videotape and does further investigations in regards to the tape, in order to prevent her death, within 7 days. The fact that the cursed videotape is the main weapon affirms that the film is a psychological horror film. This is because using a supernatural weapon is a common convention in this genre, as it contributes to the uneasiness the audience may feel, without having to use props such as knives or axes.

Habitually the majority of films commence with opening scene credits. The font style and background colour of the credits can give the viewer an idea of the genre of the film. However, The Ring begins with no opening scene credits, which instantly captivates the audience’s attention.

As is common in the psychological horror genre, the scene opens with a zoom shot of the large house surrounded by greenery e.g. Trees, grass and climbing plants. This creates a sense of realism for the target audience as it allows them to relate to the film on some level, having lived or been in a large house such as the one in the film. This in turn increases the feeling of fear for the audience, as the familiar setting awakens their imagination, allowing them to picture themselves in the scene. To emphasize the sense of mystery and suspense the scene opens during a dark windy night, which is another convention typically used in horror films.

Throughout the scene the camera does a lot of panning and tracking as the main actress walks around the house. By using tracking shots it connotes that the individual is frightened of what is occurring. This allows the viewer a more detailed tour of the situation and intensifies the emotions felt. Close up shots are also used frequently to highlight the fear of the actress causing the viewer to feel empathy and it establishes actress’s importance within the film. A variety of camera angles are used in the opening scene, nonetheless, it is evident that the low angle shots are used regularly. An example of this is when the actress is running up the stair case and notices there is water leaking from one of the rooms. These shots are used particularly well, because normally low angle shots promote the power a character has, however, in this case it does the opposite.

Contrapuntal sound is noted during this scene when the TV turns on, on its own as the actress is walking out of the living room. This contradicts the action taking place on the screen, which contributes to the paranormal fear. A mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds is used throughout the scene, which adds to the ambiguity of the film. The eerie sounds in particular are used well, given that it causes viewers to feel frightened.

In conclusion, the codes and conventions have been used wisely, as it certainly does captivate the audience and causes a variety of emotions to be felt while watching just the opening scene, which could be due to a generous budget to make the film. Notwithstanding, flashbacks of why the videotape became cursed may have been appropriate in the opening scene. This would grasp the viewer’s attentions more and give them an idea of the plot of the film. On the other hand, it could be argued that by doing this, it would be harder to create suspense throughout the remaining scenes of the film.

The Woman in Black (2012) – Opening scene

The woman in black (2012) is a horror film set in the Edwardian Era. The opening scene consists of three young sisters playing with their dolls, when suddenly they see someone who causes them to be put in a trace. The three girls walk whilst in trance towards the window, where all three of them jump out to their deaths.

The use of common codes and conventions allow the genre of the film to be clearly characterized from the opening scene.

Filming techniques play an important role in horror films as they help trigger emotions being conveyed throughout the film. A variety of camera shots have been used in the opening scene to introduce the settings as well as to emphasize the theme of mystery. The opening scene begins with several extreme close up shots, for example, of the three girls playing with a tea cup set and china dolls. The reason behind using many extreme close up shots is to convey inescapable motion for melodramaticism.  These camera shots are normally followed by a wide shot, to allow the viewers to see the subjects as well as introducing the settings. Using wide shots could also highlight the sense of isolation of the girls at that moment in time. The final camera shot of the scene is an over the shoulder shot of the women in black. This establishes the presence of an intruder who has a supernatural influence in the film. Whilst the girls walk towards the window, dolly out camera motion is used to create suspense. This is because it does not allow the audience to visualise where the subjects are walking to until they actually reach their destination.  In addition, the use of slow motion camera helped establish that the three subjects were in trance.

Sound has the single most important element of setting the mood for the scene, aiding to promote more emotions to the audience. Throughout the scene creepy piano music is played, which is non-diagetic sound. At certain points diegetic sound overlap the non-diegetic sound, to create a sense of realism and tension. For example, as the girls are walking in trace towards the window they step on their china dolls causing the heads of the dolls to crush, which is the diegetic sound heard. Screaming sounds from the mother of the girls is heard, even though she is not in shot, encouraging the development of feelings of panic and fear.

Given that the entire opening scene is a flash back of what occurred in the house before the main character is introduced, the lighting is very bright and the colour tint is washed out. The variation in lighting and colour tint is a useful convention as it allows the audience to differentiation between past and the present. Using flash backs are a common convention in the horror genre as they allow the spectators to understand the sequence of events occurring. In this case, having the flash back at the very start gives the audience an idea of what the film could be about, in order to captivate their attention.

There is no narrative during the opening scene which may have been done to allow the spectator’s imagination to overtake. It may have also been done to enable the audience to focus solely on the sequence of events occurring in the scene. Using a narrative may have made it more difficult to create fear, anxiety and dramaticism.

In conclusion, the opening scene of The Woman in Black achieves to not only captivate the audience but to promote suspense. The importance of using effective non-diegetic and diegetic sound has definitely been reiterated in this scene with its good implementation. The scene flows well overall which is essential in a horror film in order to avoid confusion. Nonetheless, a common convention for a horror film is to have dark lighting and have the paranormal events occurring at night; however, in this case the event has occurred during the day. This may impede the spectator from feeling fear or thriller as bright light/day light is not associated with paranormal activity or mystery.

Sureeyah’s Opening Sequence Analysis

Movie: Scream The dialogue used in the opening sequence for Scream creates of mystery. the voice on the phone not only has a mysterious tone, but also questions the girl in the house on teh other line with some mysterious questions. the voice goes on to ask personal questions about the girl, like what her boyfriends name is and the answers the questions correctly creating an idea of fear, because this means that the voice on the other line has been either stalking or spying on the girl. this can also lead the audience to assume that the voice is the intruder that appears later on in the movie. The background music used in the opening sequence is a mysterious type of music because it again creates an idea of fear, mystery and assumption about the movie, the sound of the popcorn popping also creates an idea of fear again, we can see this because as the conversation on the phone between the girl and the mysterious voice get weirder, the sound of the popping popcorn gets louder. This can lead to audience to assume that as soon as the popcorn pops the intruder will show himself. Also the sound of of the doorbell constantly going off will add the the idea of fear because of the sound doorbell along with the sound of the popcorn constantly getting louder. The main sound in the opening sequence that creates ideas about the key location are the doorbell and the phone ringing, The creates ideas about the key location of the film because both sounds are located within a house leading the audience to assume that the key location of this movie is the house that the girl is in.

Focus Group Survey done by Sureeyah and Martyna

Focus group recordings:

Analysis of the Focus Group research responses Done by Martyna

I asked the audience if the overall opening sequence scared them? The responses were similar, amongst the audience I asked, a 17-year-old girl had answered that it was not very scary and it was calm, only became dramatic towards the end, the other 4 members said it was not literally scary but did build up tension throughout the sequence. I then asked the second question Do you think that the characters in the opening sequence help to develop the horror? The majority said yes the evidence for this is the disturbing scene where the girls jump out the window, one girl mentioned how their was a switch of emotions towards the characters, how the girls were once happy and playing and then they were possessed. Furthermore I asked how is the genre presented in the opening sequence, how is it shown? A 21 year old girl responded that there was a shift of  tense moments and mysterious actions amongst the characters , she mentioned how the characters where zoomed in by the camera to show the moment when they jumped out, her friend had agreed. In addition I asked if the sound that is present changes your mood whilst watching the opening sequence, and in what way it does this ? I learnt with the responses that the sound used did change the audiences mood , one member mentioned that the music get’s louder and increases this creates a dramatic atmosphere , I then asked if the use of no dialogue makes the film seem scarier and only hearing a woman screaming at the end changes your views , The responses were yes , they mentioned how  throughout the movie it built up adrenaline and it was scarier as you didn’t know what was about to happen. I then asked how they thought they could have made the opening sequence better ? the responses were , to show more action and hints as to why the girls are possessed and to make the narrative better, and understandable  as the audience didn’t really know what was happening. Due to the responses I learnt that perhaps the amount of characters used in an opening sequence is very important , especially in horror movies as you need to learn about so many characters that it would help the audience understand the film better if there was a wider introduction of many other characters that will be shown throughout the movie. I also learnt that the use of no dialogue in a horror movie brings tension and makes the film more scary as you don’t know what is happening, the sound effects used in the background wether digetic or non digetic is also important as it gives the audience a brief as to what the movie genre is and what is happening in the opening sequence .

Mise-en-scene Role, taken by Martyna: Decide on all of the mise-en-scene aspects to be used in the opening sequence – this will include: costume, props, location, lighting, actors, actors movement, actors make-up Evidence: Locations IMG_2486 IMG_1270 Actors Our Main character which was the victim(17 year old Eastern European) Hair colour: Brown Eye colour: Blue1978657_747853201892175_1192173708_n Second character- 17 year old Afro-Caribbean girl -Hair colour-dark brown -Eye colour -brown 10154980_757697684241060_1204708381_n Killer- 19 year old Male – Hair colour-Brown -Eye colour- hazel/Green 1977436_757697657574396_1014348622_n Actor’s Makeup : Then  I went to look at make up tutorials on YouTube , to give me a brief idea of what make up to do on the characters that will be acting for the opening sequence , to elaborate on the plan I did practises on myself of the make up using help from the tutorials to see how it looks like and took photographs in different lightings. From this, I have decided on the main make up ideas for the characters. I will use a white pale paste that will make the killers skill look ghostly , I will then outline the under eyes with a black eye shadow to make the character look dangerous and scary. fake liquid blood will be used to create a sense of horror. The main character will be wearing a non shiny foundation so that the light doesn’t bounce onto her face when the filming is taking place. She will wear a neutral red lipstick to brighten up her face. Towards the end a paler lipstick will be added with a tint of blood to show the signs of horror , her friend will be wearing a dark lipstick to show she is out to meet her friend after college , this will also make her look older , a similar foundation will be used but in a different colour. Costumes: The characters costumes: The killer will be wearing clothes that will be dark , example black top , black trainers and black jeans this indicates danger and mysterious aspects. The Main character which is the girl will be wearing student clothes and her college ID: her clothes will be formal to indicate she is a student followed by her friend who will also be wearing formal clothes with a casual coat to show that it is cold outside. Props: The props that will be used is a mobile phone and college ID this shows that the characters are students and the main aspect of the opening sequence is the characters contacting each other.Present the mise-en-scene plans to their group for feedback. Use Motion to produce titling for the film Evidence: For the titling i decided to use ‘Embryo’ from the ‘Particle Emitters’ folder as a background effect for all the titles.

Screen shot 2014-03-24 at 10.18.32 For the title of the film i decided to use black front with white outlining and decided to place the film name on the centre-bottom of the screen. Screen shot 2014-03-24 at 10.17.30 For the rest of the titles, i decided to place then at different points on the screen, for example, ‘Directed by Aminat…’ comes at the bottom right corner of the screen. Evidence:
Editing process.
The group decided that after the first day of shooting that we did, we needed to shoo tour film again due to different factors as the scenery was wrong and didnt really suit the ideas. Also the shots that were taken were unable to use as half through most of them the sound disappeared. So as a group we decided to shot our film again. Luckily this time we was successful, and was able to use the footage for this shoo the conduct the editing.

Once i had logged the footage on to my computer i started editing.
i firgure out which shots were usable and which werent. i then procceded to edited these shots. i cut out all the unwanted footage and and made sure all the shots was in the right order. After i was happy with this, i procceded to add effrect to a couple of the shots where needed. When i was happy with this i was then ready to add the titling to the edit. I then begun to add all the titling to the places within the clip where i thoiught they suited.

Once i was happy with this i was then ready to add the sound to the edit. I gathered all the sound that gabriel had produced and begun listening to them and decieded where they best fit. Once i had decieded this i added the sound in the places i thought would suit good.
After this i made sure that everyth8ing was good and uploaded the video on to youtube.

The group has decided that Martyna’s pitch will be chosen to recreate for the main task. The decision was made after all members presented their pitch to each other. Martyna’s pitch was chosenbecause it seems the most realistic to perform, as the location and narrative are very suitable to film. How has the findings of our secondary research have an impact on our final filming idea?

Production Meeting – 24th January 2014 Present: Aminat, Martyna,Gabriel and Sureeyah. Agenda: All members of the group will present their ideas from their job role to group and constructive feedback will be given on each person’s plan.

Construction Section (Production)

Screen shot 2014-02-12 at 15.17.04 This is a screen shot of day one in editing. We decided as a group that the shooting was good enough to produce our movie so we decided to shot our movie again.

Change of plan for our film project

There has been many changes to our production as there was a lot of disappointment with booked actors, timing and locations not available at the time we wanted to record. Here are a list of the changes that the group had to make in order to produce a new film project:

  • Change of characters to members of the group with an additional individual
  • Change of location to a different park setting
  • Change of time from afternoon to the evening

Screen shot 2014-03-21 at 12.22.57 The video below shows the video that we used at a screening to gather audience feedback about the film so far. After the screening, i made a few changes to the film. I have added the titling to the film and added some sound to it aswell but there is still more to be added. This is the film so far :

From our secondary  research, we carried out a questionnaire to find out who could be our potential audience for our media product. Results from the questionnaire show that majority of our audience will be between the ages of 16-18. The most common gender that will be amongst our audience is females. Movies are the most popular type of hobby that our audience and Horror movies are enjoyed. Our results show that 60% of our potential audience are black.

5 Responses to “Main Task 2013/14: Aminat Olajide (1089), Martyna Sliuzaite (1168), Sureeyah Grant (0906) and Gabriel Bayene (1049).”

  1. It is good to see that you are getting on with the course work set however there are some changes that will need to be made:

    FOR THE GROUP
All of the pitches should be put together at the top of the page.
The sign posting throughout will need to be worked on in order to make it clear where everything is, increasing font size and thickness would certainly help.
The questionnaire results need to be completed and better presented with a graph and explanation for each question asked; this is the same for the focus group survey and the cinema audience survey.
There will need to be an explanation of how the product and audience research has changed your initial ideas.
Your production meeting notes will need to show decisions being made and dates for when work will be completed.

    FOR THE INDIVIDUAL GROUP MEMBERS
Aminat it is good that you have looked at two films in your analysis but you will have to complete these in the manner agreed, which will mean that you’ll have to comment on camera shots, mise-en-scene, sound and editing by looking at three films.
Gabriel it is good that you have looked at three films in your analysis but you will have to complete these in the manner agreed, which will mean that you’ll have to comment on camera shots, mise-en-scene, sound.
Martyna and Sureeyah you should have done your opening sequence analysis by now so can you post your work asap.

  2. Aminat – I have completed the analysis of 3 films and have commented on camera shots, mise-en-scene, sound and editing for all of them. For the cinema audience survey, I will add the graphs of where I got the answers from as I have explained each question.

  3. Group response:

The blog has been sorted out. all the pitches have been moved to the top of the page. all completed opening sequence analysis have been moved together.

Sureeyah has been assigned to complete the questionnaire explanation by the 20/01/14, also complete her opening sequence analysis and upload by the same date.

Aminat will place screen shots of the graph(s) for the cinema research to show evidence for the answers. This will be by 10/01/13

  4. Martyna’s feedback response : I had done the opening sequence analysis , you may have missed it due to the size of the font , I have now made it bold and clear.

  5. For the group:
the sign posing is really coming along now and it is easier to see where everything is, well done.
You will however have to separate the construction section work from the planning and research work.

    For each group member:
You’ll will all have to present the evidence that the individual job roles are being worked through.
